Breaking free from the “I’ll Start Monday” Mentality

How many times have you told yourself, “I’ll start fresh on Monday”?

You’re not alone. This mindset feels productive, like a reset button but in reality, it keeps you trapped in an endless cycle of delay. Monday comes, and the plan feels too overwhelming, life happens, and suddenly, you’re pushing your goals to the next week.

It is because change doesn’t need a perfect starting line. The best time to take action is right now, in small, sustainable steps.

Why We Fall for the “I’ll Start Monday” Mindset:

This mindset is rooted in all-or-nothing thinking; the belief that success only counts if everything is done perfectly. If you slip up, the day (or week) is ruined, so you might as well start over later.

But perfection isn’t the goal, consistency is!

How to Break the Cycle:

  • Make the Next Best Choice: Instead of waiting for the “perfect” moment, ask yourself: What’s the next best choice I can make right now? Even one positive action today builds momentum.

  • Shrink the Starting Line: Going from zero to 100 is intimidating. Instead, start ridiculously small. Drink one extra glass of water. Add five minutes of movement. Small changes over time.

    · Redefine Progress: Progress is not about perfection. It’s about showing up more often than not. If you miss a day, simply get back to it without guilt.

Action Step:

  • Forget about waiting for the “perfect moment”. Pick one small action you can do today, something so simple you can’t fail. Then do it again tomorrow. That’s how real change happens.
